Our facilities allow the evaluation of methane potential of biomass and waste streams (m3 of CH4/ton of organic matter, kinetics, etc.). The potential of intermediate crops (that improve the quality of soils and increase the storage of carbon in soils) as feedstock for anaerobic digesters can also be studied. - Pre-treatment pilots for biodegradability improvement; - Anaerobic digesters (1L to 100L) adapted to agro & agri-food residues for digestate production in controlled conditions and online monitoring; - Mobile equipment for anaerobic digestions studies on field; - Bench-scale compost reactors (1L to 10L) in controlled conditions and online monitoring; - Analytic platform for digestate characterization: Kjeldahl, CHON elemental analysis, NIR, 3D fluorescence spectroscopy, ISBaMO® (Organic Matter Bio-accessibility Index); - Digestate phase-separation post-treatment, dewatering and concentration equipment.

Digestate composting & Post-Treatment facility

The variability on the digesters’ intrants can lead to variability on digestates’ characteristics and quality, with sometimes a poor match with the agrosystems needs (soil, crop, environment) as a consequence. Our services provide useful information for an optimal C and nutrients recycling through digestate application as fertilizer. These services can be integrated in strategies for replacement of current linear approaches leading to economic losses and negative impacts into circular models. Our facilities: - Bench-scale compost reactors (1L to 10L) in controlled conditions and online monitoring; - Analytic platform for digestate characterization: Kjeldahl, CHON elemental analysis, NIR, 3D fluorescence spectroscopy, ISBaMO® (Organic Matter Bio-accessibility Index); - Digestate phase-separation post-treatment, dewatering and concentration equipment.

BSL-2 Lab

The comprehension of the fate of pathogens potentially present in agro & agri-food residues and the impact of the treatments on their reduction is crucial, as well as their potential spread during the recycling of organic waste products. Our BSL-2 Lab offers the possibilities of handling microbial consortia with potential pathogen content. For example to study the sanitary inocuity of digestates before their use as fertilizers. The isolation and cultivation of strict anaerobic strains and pure cultures for biotechnological purposes (biomolecules, bioH2, microalgal products, etc.) is also be possible. Our facilities: Full equipped laboratory complying with BSL-2 requirements: laminar-flow cabinet, doors separating the working space with the rest of the facility, restricted access, biological safety cabinet (BSC), autoclave, HVAC system, lockable room for medical waste accumulation and storage, etc.
